This week our team descended on South Beach for the ninth edition of Design Miami, the global forum for design, and sister fair to Art Basel. The fair featured 37 of the world’s leading design galleries presenting work spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. There is a notable Miami-inspired vibe at this year’s fair from cabana-style booths to pastel-hued works and nods to Miami’s architecture and Latin flavor. About 7000 high profile collectors and celebrities attended the preview day and we have welcomed more than 400 journalists from over 25 countries so far. Visitors love the new entrance pavilion called Tent Pile from formlessfinder, a NY-based architecture practice – a giant pile of sand held up by an aluminum roof designed by Neal Feay. Design Miami/ also features some breathtaking installations from its sponsors Perrier-Jouet, Swarovski and FENDI. Michael’s Genuine Restaurant pop-up was a bustling and delicious meeting point throughout the week and the Audi car service shuttled VIP guests all over the city. Louis Vuitton’s recreated house on the beach is a stand out. Overall, the mood in Miami has been upbeat, sales have been strong and the sun has been shining here all week long.
