The city of Dubai is a global meeting point for the international design community and is regarded as the regional capital of design. The establishment of Dubai Design Week has created a cultural focus for design in Dubai, with the aim of further establishing the world-class design community in the city. The Week, which has the region’s leading design fair, Downtown Design, at its heart, was developed as a gateway for creative thought and design worldwide, to and from the Emirates, and succeeded this year in its function, bringing thousands of visitors from around the Middle East and the world. The geographical position of Dubai makes it an ideal hub for international designers and brands to take advantage of the city and its newly constructed Dubai Design District (d3) as an ideal location for showcase design innovation and new products.

In its inaugural year, Dubai Design Week sets itself apart from other design initiatives globally through its focus on emerging talent from the Middle East, support and participation from established and influential designers, architects, and industry experts, as well as through unprecedented programming such the first ever Global Grad Show.

Beyond the more-than-doubling of exhibitors at Downtown Design this year, to a total of 90, six visiting Design Weeks; Beijing, Helsinki, Istanbul, Melbourne, Mexico City, and San Francisco, all showcased three emerging design brands from their respective ?cities, enhancing the offering of the Fair and strengthening ties with other design markets globally.
