As a long-term partner to the City of Helsinki, initiated in 2012 to promote Helsinki’s designation as World Design Capital in 2012, Camron’s relationship with the city has more recently ranged from driving global awareness for the design competition to develop Makasiiniranta, to international design communications on behalf of Helsinki Partners.

In 2021 we were engaged to promote the Makasiiniranta design competition to transform the South Harbour waterfront area into a new, culturally-intensive masterplan, to be the site of the New Museum of Architecture and Design. We devised a media strategy to promote the development opportunity amongst the global architectural and real estate community, generating extensive interest both domestically and internationally that resulted in 11 final design submissions for the jury’s consideration.

The following phase involved communications for the complex and public-facing process for the project, announcing the winning submission and demonstrating Helsinki’s democratic commitment to addressing urban and civic challenges via design, which included a hosted press trip showcasing the city’s harmonious relationship to design during Helsinki Design Week and the inaugural Helsinki Biennial.

As Helsinki celebrated a decade since its World Design Capital designation, our relationship with the city deepened with a mission to broaden awareness for Helsinki’s unique relationship to design; from its renowned legacy involving masters of architecture and design, to its forward-thinking application of design across the city’s systems, public realm, education and culture.

Our strategic approach incorporated international events to engage with media and tastemakers, the identification of thought leadership and speaking opportunities for Helsinki’s Chief Design Officer, and a curated press trip programme across fashion, design, architecture and cultural media through the year to coincide with key projects and cultural launches. In addition to extending the city’s international network, successful feature coverage was achieved in publications from Wallpaper*, Dezeen and FRAME to IDEAT, Dazed and Casa Brutus.
